Amver: Saving Lives Every Day with Partners from Finland and Around the Globe

U.S-Finland cooperation helps save lives at sea.  Three Finnish vessels from Arctia Offshore and ESL Shipping were recognized for being part of this effort with Amver awards on April 19. U.S. Deputy Chief of Mission to Finland, Ms. Susan Elbow and U.S. Coast Guard Amver director Benjamin Strong made the presentation during the 12th annual Arctic Shipping Forum in Helsinki. To qualify, each vessel made itself available for search and rescue at least 128 days in 2015.

Amver, sponsored by the United States Coast Guard, is a unique, computer-based, and voluntary global ship reporting system. Search and rescue authorities worldwide use it to arrange for assistance to persons in distress at sea. With Amver, rescue coordinators can quickly identify participating ships in the area of distress and divert the best-suited ship or ships to respond. Learn more at
