American citizens visiting or residing in Finland should note that the emergency number for the police, rescue, and fire departments is 112.

In an emergency involving an American citizen in Finland, you can reach us during normal business hours and after hours, seven days a week, via the main Embassy telephone number: +358-9-616-250 and select 0.  Please note that this number is NOT for visa inquiries.

You can also call Overseas Citizen Services in the U.S.:

Consular Emergencies Involving U.S. Citizens in Finland

  • a sudden death;
  • victims of violent crimes;
  • involvement in a serious accident;
  • a U.S. citizen missing in Finland; or
  • serious illness or hospitalization, etc.

Lost your U.S. Passport?

Please note that although the loss of a U.S. passport can be inconvenient, it is not a life or death emergency for which we can provide after-hours service. We want to help you replace your passport as soon as possible during our regular hours of operation. Please see our Passports page for detailed instructions.
