The U.S. Embassy in Finland offers small grants within the $1,000-$5,000 range for outreach activities that enhance the understanding of the United States in Finland. We invite Finnish non-profit organizations to submit innovative cultural and educational programming proposals.
All programs must have a strong American element and a plan how to engage Finnish audiences in order to be considered for funding. The U.S. Embassy is particularly interested in projects that engage and empower youth and diverse Finnish audiences. Issues of interest include tolerance, social entrepreneurship, minorities, environmental sustainability, and support of people-to-people exchange between Finland and the United States.
All proposals are reviewed by the U.S. Embassy’s Public Affairs Section and the process is competitive. Proposals should be submitted via email to HelsinkiGrants@state.gov.
All proposals should include a project narrative, budget breakdown in U.S. dollars, project timeline and monitoring plan. Proposals must be complete (including a detailed budget in U.S. dollars) and submitted in English. Applications are accepted year-round.
Please note that Embassy grants CANNOT be used to fund religious organizations or partisan political activity; individual trips abroad; trade activities; fundraising campaigns; charitable activities; humanitarian aid; commercial projects; scientific research; projects whose primary aim is the institutional development and operational costs of the organization; or representational expenses (lunch, alcoholic beverages, flowers, prizes etc.). Where flights to or from the United States are included, these must (under the Fly America Act) be provided by a U.S. carrier.
