American Resource Center closed on June 7, 2020. The U.S. Embassy thanks the Helsinki University Library and all customers for their close cooperation over the years.
The ARC was originally founded in 1946 and for decades it was managed by the United States Information Service (USIS).
Starting in 1993, the ARC operated under a partnership arrangement (MOU) with the University of Helsinki allowing the ARC separate facility status within the Helsinki University.
The partnership arrangement between the Embassy and University was renewed for the last time in June 2015 for the duration of five years.
The Public Affairs Section (PAS) at the Embassy of the United States, Helsinki implemented an organizational change in May 2019. Consequently, the Embassy is not able to continue providing staffing for the ARC at the Helsinki University Library.
The Embassy would like to emphasize that we appreciate our partnership with the University of Helsinki and the University Library for these many years. Our collaboration with the Library has been excellent, and we look forward to close cooperation between the University and the Embassy in the future.
