Please join us for a public lecture on Iran by Professor Gawdat Bahgat at Helsinki University on Tuesday, October 15, at 14:15!
Since the early 1990s global powers and the Islamic Republic of Iran have been engaged in intense negotiations over Tehran’s nuclear program, ballistic missiles and regional policies. Both sides do not speak with one voice. Global powers have adopted different approaches while moderate and hardliner forces within the Iranian leadership have expressed different opinions. Still, all parties prefer a diplomatic solution and agree that a military conflict would be catastrophic. The challenge is how to get there.
Gawdat Bahgat is a professor at the Near East South Asia Center for Strategic Studies (NESA) at the National Defense University (NDU) in Washington, DC. His main areas of expertise are energy security and the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction.
