Message for U.S. Citizens: Security Alert: Demonstrations in Helsinki City Center

Helsinki Police Department informed that there are planned daily protests scheduled from October 5 through October 14. A protest planned on Mannerheimintie on October 6, at 1700 will block traffic. The protests are organized by Elokapina (Extinction Rebellion Finland) regarding climate change.
While the demonstrations are intended to be peaceful, it is advisable to avoid the central part of Helsinki as their goal is to disrupt and delay vehicle traffic. The police will have heavy presence and will monitor the situation.
Avoid these areas as protests and demonstrations can be unpredictable and quickly turn violent.
