All American citizens and alien residents of the United States men between 18 and 26 years of are required to register with Selective Service as soon as they reach age 18 (or for new residents, become a U.S. resident). Registration is the process of providing the Selective Service with personal information, such as name, address, date of birth, Social Security Account Number and other related information about one’s self. It is a civic and legal responsibility.
U.S. embassies and consulates abroad assist the Selective Service System with its registration program abroad. Overseas registrants are encouraged to register with the Selective Service website On-Line Registration. Where on-line registration is not available, the nearest U.S. embassy or consulate can be of assistance. Current brochures and guidance are also available on the Selective Service website.
